ABOUT PERRYTON

  • LOCATION + CONTACT
    LOCATION The City of Perryton is located in the northeastern corner of the Texas Panhandle. Perryton is the county seat of Ochiltree County. Perryton is situated on the north/south route of U.S. Route 83 which extends from the Canadian border at Westhope, North Dakota to the north, to the Mexico border at Brownsville, Texas to the south. Perryton is also located Texas State Highway 15 which travels east/west through the Texas Panhandle. Perryton is 116 miles northeast of Amarillo, 398 miles northwest of the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex. erryton is 97 miles north of Interstate Highway 40. Located in the Great Wheat Belt of the southwest, Perryton is surrounded by both farm and grazing land underlaid by deposits of oil and gas in the rich Anadarko Basin.   • EDUCATION
    The people of Perryton are proud of their school system and provide the financial support to field winning sports teams and develop fine music and academic programs. Graduates from the Perryton schools have achieved distinction in such fields as medicine, science, business, education and research. The school system includes the Frank Phillips-Perryton College, one high school, a junior high, an intermediate school and an elementary school. ​ Opportunities for continuing education are present in the form of courses offered at Frank Phillips College - Allen Campus. The Perryton CDC has partnered with FPC-Allen Campus and the Perryton ISD to provide facilities for local High Demand Job Training programs. Currently, programs for obtaining Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), Certified Diesel Mechanic, and Certified Welding certificates are available. Additionally, the welding facility serves as the PISD’s welding facility for High School Welding programs. The Perryton CDC has also provided support for FPC-Allen Campus cosmetology program and various health care education programs.

  • TRANSPORTATION
    Perryton is served by a county operated airport located 3 miles east of the city. Suitable for public or corporate aircraft, the airport is comprised of a 5,000 ft., north/south, lighted runway, which can be microphone controlled by the pilot of an incoming aircraft. Fuel and service are available for all types of aircraft. For international service, the Rick Husband Amarillo International Airport is 2 hours away and includes American Eagle, Continental Express, Great Lakes Aviation, and Southwest Airlines. Perryton is also served by the United Parcel Service, and four freight lines. U.S. Highway 83, which connects Canada to Mexico passes through Perryton, as does Texas Highway 15, which provides connections to other major routes.
  • MAJOR EMPLOYERS
    Seaboard Foods is located on the south side of Perryton on US Hwy 83 and the Seaboard Farms Feed Mill is located 5 miles west of Perryton on US Hwy 15. Seaboard Foods produces and delivers all of its own feed from this mill. Servicing the Texas, Oklahoma and Kansas, Perryton Equity Exchange provides grain resources, agronomy services and retail, bulk and retail fuel, fertilizer, crop and livestock insurance, and a host of other agriculture related services. North Plains Electric Cooperative’s core mission is to exceed members’ expectations by providing safe and reliable electric service in an economically and environmentally responsible manner.   • RETAIL SECTOR
    The Retail Trade Council of the Perryton-Ochiltree Chamber of Commerce has developed Perryton as a regional trade center with over 200 specialty shops, restaurants and service-related businesses. Perryton has some of the finest clothing, antique, specialty and gift shops, as well as electronics, appliances, automobiles, hardware and much, much more.
  • RECREATION
    Our 18-hole municipal golf course, lighted tennis courts, municipal swimming pool, and other recreation activities are all available for use by guests of the city. ​ Wolf Creek Park and Lake Fryer, located 17 miles southeast of Perryton, is one of the finest family recreation centers in the Panhandle.   • GOVERNMENT
    A city council-manager form of government oversees the operations of the City of Perryton. The City of Perryton services include a police department, fire department, water, sewer and gas services along with a streets department, parks department, animal control, golf course, and municipal swimming pool. The Community Development Corporation of Perryton is a component unit of the City of Perryton. The Ochiltree County Courthouse houses the Ochiltree Commissioners Court and Judges Office, County Attorney, County Clerk, County Treasurer, County Tax Assessor/Collector, Constable, Justice of the Peace, and County Auditor. Additionally, the Courthouse houses the District Court, District Clerk and District Attorney’s office. The Ochiltree County Law Enforcement Center houses the County Sheriff, Constable and Ochiltree County Jail. Ochiltree County supervises the operations of Lake Fryer & Wolf Creek Park, and jointly operates the airport along with maintenance of hundreds of miles of county roads. Cooperation between these two governmental entities helps provide for excellent law enforcement and fire protection for both city and rural residents. Emergency medical services are provided by cooperation between Ochiltree General Hospital, the City of Perryton, and Ochiltree County.
